GENDER IDENTITIES EXPLAINED

TRANSGENDER:

 • Transgender is an identity that refers to someone whose gender does not align with the sex they were assigned at birth.
 • A transgender man is someone who was assigned female at birth but has transitioned (or is transitioning) to expressing a male gender identity.
 • A transgender woman is someone who was assigned male at birth but has transitioned (or is transitioning) to expressing a female gender identity. 

TRANS SEXUAL:

• Transgender and transsexual are commonly confused terms that both refer to gender identity

• Transsexual is a category that includes individuals who desire to physically transition to the sex that corresponds with the gender with which they identify.

INTERSEX  & TRANSGENDER

• Intersex is a term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male.
 • Being transgender has to do with your internal knowledge of your gender identity. 
A transgender person is usually born with a body and genes that match a typical male or female, but they know their gender identity to be different. 

GENDER QUEER:

 • A genderqueer person may identify as neither gender, both, or a combination. They do not subscribe to the traditional gender binary.

GENDERFLUID

 • Someone who is gender fluid feels that their gender is fluid and can change and vary over time.
 • They may identify as a man or masculine one day, and as femme, woman, or feminine another day, and move in between these expressions of gender. 

PAN GENDER:   

• Pangender is a gender identity that is composed of many gender expressions. 

• This could mean feeling many or all genders at the same time or being fluid between many or all genders across time.  

 A GENDER :

 • A person who does not identify themselves as a man or woman, has no gender identity, or no gender to express. 

NON- BINARY:

Non-binary is a spectrum of gender identities which are outside the binary- they are not exclusively masculine or feminine. 
• Non-binary people may have two or more genders, have no gender or have a fluctuating gender identity. 

 

DEMI GENDER: 

• Demi gender is an identity for people who have a partial connection to a certain gender. 
• This includes the partly female identity demi girl, and the partly male identity demi boy.
